Dear Brother or Sister,

NSSLHA Chooses Stuttering Foundation as Charity of the Year

The Stuttering Foundation was chosen at the Spring Executive Council meeting in March 2010 as the new beneficiary of "NSSLHA Loves!" Based in Memphis, Tenn., the Foundation provides free online resources, services and support to those who stutter and their families, as well as support for research into the causes of stuttering.

Donations from the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association will be used to help children who stutter worldwide.

Annie's Mailbox

Dear Annie: My husband and I recently visited the beach house of some friends. While there, I met an interesting lady who stuttered. At first I thought she had had too much to drink, but after 15 minutes I realized she had a speech impediment. I've never met an adult who stutters. At times it was very uncomfortable because I knew the word she was trying to say but could not get out.

Would it have been rude to complete the word for her, or should I have let her work through it? I felt very awkward.

I created my blog, “Goodbye Stuttering,” a year ago. The purpose is not only to share my experiences as a person who stutters with others but also to let them know about the many resources available in other languages.
