Kyle Heckman is a race car driver from Bakersfield, California. He’s had great success at all levels of amateur and professional racing. His dream is to be a fixture on the NASCAR circuit. To do so, he’s looking for a sponsor.

Tim Gunn

Now a veteran design consultant and seasoned expert in the fashion industry, Tim Gunn first shot to fame in 2004 as a mentor to contestants on Bravo TV’s popular fashion design competition, Project Runway. Week after week, Gunn caught the audience’s attention with his signature catchphrase, “Make it work.” However, Gunn had some trouble following his own advice as a child growing up in Washington, D.C.

Shelby Railroad Raises Over $10K for Stuttering

Kirk and John Tarver and their Memphis-based Shelby Railroad Services Inc. raised more than $10,000 for the Stuttering Foundation. Shelby Railroad held their annual fund-raising golf outing and dinner on Sept. 18 at Wedgewood Golf Club, in Olive Branch, Miss.

Fraser Awarded Honorary Fellowship

Stuttering Foundation President Jane Fraser received an Honorary Fellowship in September from the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists, headquartered in the United Kingdom. Fraser was selected for her distinguished service in promoting the profession of speech and language therapy. The awards ceremony was held at Leeds Metropolitan University in England.

Alan Rabinowitz

Alan Rabinowitz, Ph.D., who passed away in 2018, was an explorer, wildlife conservationist, and author. He established the Hukawng Valley Tiger Reserve in northern Myanmar, which is about the size of the state of Vermont.

His love for animals began when he was very young.

King George

In November 2010, worldwide movie audiences were presented with a most interesting and unusual movie release with The King’s Speech, starring Colin Firth as King George VI and Helena Bonham Carter as his wife Elizabeth.

Unfortunately, history may have forgotten the courageous and inspiring story of Prince Albert who stuttered badly and never dreamed that he would ever be king when his older brother, King Edward VIII, abruptly abdicated the throne in 1936 to marry Wallis Simpson, an American divorcee.

Bill Withers

While Bill Withers has long been on the Stuttering Foundation's list of Famous People Who Stutter, many people probably didn’t realize he stuttered. He passed away on March 30, 2020.

Born in 1938 in Slab Fork, W.V., Withers was the youngest of six children. When his father died when Withers was small, he was raised by his mother and grandmother, both of whom worked as domestics.

Carly Simon

Carly Simon began stuttering severely when she was eight years old.

Ken Venturi

As much of the nation watches the U.S. Open Golf Championship, it is impossible not to think about our late friend Ken Venturi. Ken overcame many challenges to win the Open at Congressional in 1964 and go on to become the voice of golf for more than three decades.

However, Ken faced no bigger obstacle than stuttering. Ken Venturi was a champion to those who stutter, going out of his way to share his personal experience when consulted by a colleague, friend, or child who stutters.
